Nr.25 /2009: Pep things up this Christmas

Every year around this time it's always the same question: Where and how can I find really great Christmas gifts? The experts from specialty chain Fressnapf have a few good tips this year for all animal lovers: stylish pet furniture that will liven up any home.

What do dogs and cats like best? Right: a place to stretch out and relax! There are classic sleeping places, floor cushions and floor mats, and unique sleeping elements that are not just something to look at, but also fit exceptionally well into the home setting of the pet.

Of course there is also leather and imitation leather furniture as well, besides the traditional plush sofas, beds and divans made to look just like the original. For a chic, modern style you'll find club lounges, sofas or mattresses with clear lines and smooth surfaces. And natural materials also have a lot to offer! Rattan, natural wicker, woven banana leaf or water hyacinth are timeless, elegant and appear as if their colour was made to match the interior style for a very refined look. Some examples include a wicker sofa with back rest, an extravagant chaise lounge, and a luxurious round bed with pillows. These sleeping places also combine very well with other elements such as raised wicker baskets or scratching posts made from the same material.

Whereas dogs generally don't require any additional furniture besides a resting place - other than maybe a step to get onto the couch or bed - cats enjoy more variety: Felines like to visit different resting places. A nice alternative to the traditional place to relax by the window are "cat caves" shaped like igloos, pyramids, pillars, temples or tents. And cats will find pure relaxation in a hammock on a sturdy metal frame.

A scratching post is an essential element in any cat's home. The large variety available today means that you are sure to find the right one for any taste. There are scratching posts in bold colours, futuristic shapes, made out of banana leaves, wicker, covered in plush, with a stone look, or even fancifully made to look like palm trees and figures. A really special highlight is a scratching board with adjustable platforms that is mounted on the wall.

And by the way, you'll also find something nice for your small furry friends in cages. This miniature furniture might not add much to the décor of your home, but it offers a welcome change for cage animals and possibly even a bit of fun and something to chew on in their dwelling.
